Housing is not a luxury. It's a lifeline.
For adults with serious mental illness, a safe and affordable place to live can be nearly impossible to find, and isolation often follows.
We are family and community members who have watched people we love struggle to find stable housing and real friendships. Many families carry the same quiet worry: what will happen to my loved one when I'm no longer here to help?
ASH's answer is a Supportive Community model. Residents live independently in their own apartments, with neighbors, programs, and a community space built around connection. Plans include life skills and financial literacy workshops, social events and outings, health and wellness activities, and time for creativity and fun.
Living in a supportive housing community has made such a great difference in my life. My friends living around me, the programs, classes, and fun at the community center. I hope that you would support the building of these communities.
What we're building
ASH already owns the land: a 0.82-acre lot in North Dallas. Our architect's latest plan builds the community in two phases so residents can move in sooner.
22 private apartments Phase 1
- Two two-story residential buildings with 11 apartments each
- A shared private courtyard between the buildings
- Private yards for ground-floor apartments
- A single front entrance to the residential area for resident safety
The community building Phase 2
- A community living room and shared kitchen for meals and gatherings
- A therapy room and an office
- Shared laundry and storage
- A front yard for community programs and events, and backyard space for recreation
Every apartment is a home. Each studio has its own kitchenette, full bathroom, and closet, so residents live independently with support close by.
A place that feels like a neighborhood
Brick, wood, and sage-green siding. Covered porches and walkways. Planting beds and a courtyard where neighbors can say hello.
Where the project stands
This is ASH's first building, and it's moving. Here's the path from an empty lot to move-in day.

What it takes to build
$4.6M
Preliminary contractor estimate to build the full community, or roughly $209,000 per apartment.
We will fund construction through a combination of individual donors, foundations, and public affordable housing programs. Gifts from our community come first, because they pay for the design and engineering work that major funders require before they commit.
Where the money goes
Estimate dated March 2026, before value engineering and final structural and soil reports. Appliances and some fixtures are purchased separately. Figures will change as design is finalized.
